From October 1, 2025 to September 11, 2026
Opening reception on Wednesday, October 1 at 6 p.m.
For over 15 years, Werner Jeker has been exploring the Alfred Latour collection, delving into the diverse range and modes of expression of the artist from Eygalières. He has served as art director for three books* dedicated to Latour’s work, all published by Actes Sud. Over the years, he has developed a deep connection with Latour’s work. Surprisingly, he maintains a vibrant dialogue with the artist, who passed away in 1964. Jeker’s research has taken him behind the scenes at the Imprimerie Nationale (National Printing Office), where he discovered that Armand Latour, Alfred’s father, was employed. He understands the origin of a fascination with graphic design and typography. In continuing his research, he encounters Raoul Dufy, Cassandre, and Peignot, all figures who influenced Latour’s career, as well as Jeker’s own. This interest in the French avant-garde stems from his years training as a graphic designer.
The exhibition that Werner Jeker presents is a collection of logical sequences throughout the artist’s work. His genius reveals themes, methods, and concerns that are present throughout Alfred Latour’s life—like a basso continuo—and which he himself shares. Jeker’s arrangement of drawings, pen strokes, photographs, and advertisements becomes a work of art in itself. It’s a bit like Bach playing Scarlatti; the interpretation of one becomes a work in its own right. As if the work were waiting for that particular perspective.
